Let’s face it. The oral care industry hasn’t exactly had the cleanest environmental track record. From plastic toothbrushes piling up in landfill to single-use packaging floating in our oceans, the impact is bigger than most people realise. With billions of products used around the world every year, we can’t ignore it. At Waken, we believe every brand has a responsibility to do better and that starts with making thoughtful choices, one product at a time.
Our journey to better packaging
Sustainable packaging isn’t always straightforward. We’ve learned a lot, tested plenty, and asked difficult questions along the way. What works on paper doesn’t always work at scale, and not every “green” material lives up to its promise. But we’re committed to finding the best balance between performance, sustainability and recyclability. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and we’re not finished yet. We’ll keep evolving as new innovations emerge, and we’ll always be honest about what we’re doing and why.
Mouthwash: recycled and recyclable
Our mouthwash bottles are made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled HDPE plastic. That means we’re reusing materials that are already in circulation instead of creating more plastic from scratch. Even our labels are considered, 50 percent recycled and 50 percent virgin HDPE. Our caps are currently virgin polypropylene, but we’re working to switch those to recycled plastic too.
Toothpaste: smart materials that do more
Our toothpaste cartons are made from FSC-certified cardboard, so you know they’re sourced responsibly. The tubes contain at least 30 percent recycled plastic, sometimes as high as 41 percent, and we use a single-material design that’s easier to recycle. We’ve even kept the cap low-profile to cut down on unnecessary plastic. Small details, big difference.
Dental floss: upcycled and efficient
This is one of our favourites. Our floss is made from recycled water bottles. The case is also the dispenser, which means no extra plastic box, no wasteful extras. Just a simple, clever solution that shows what thoughtful design can do.
Sonic brush: designed with purpose
When we created our Sonic Brush, we thought about every part. The handle is made from recycled ABS plastic. The heads are made from bio-plastic sourced from 100 percent renewable materials. Even the bristles are made from castor oil. It’s an electric toothbrush, just done more thoughtfully.
Bamboo brush: simple and sustainable
Our bamboo toothbrush is made with sustainably grown bamboo. It’s renewable, biodegradable and a brilliant alternative to plastic. No gimmicks, no greenwashing, just a clear, natural choice that fits with our values.
