Fluoride gets talked about a lot. And not always for the right reasons. It’s one of the most important ingredients in oral care, yet it’s surrounded by myths and misunderstandings. At Waken, we believe in cutting through the noise with clarity and solid science. When it comes to fluoride, the facts are clear and worth sharing.
Why fluoride matters
Fluoride is one of the most researched and trusted ingredients in dental health. It helps strengthen tooth enamel and significantly reduces the risk of cavities. Dentists and public health organisations around the world recommend it. You’ll struggle to find a dental professional who supports fluoride-free alternatives, because the science is that strong.
What fluoride actually does is help rebuild enamel and protect it from the acids that come from eating and drinking. Over time, this makes your teeth more resilient and keeps them healthier for longer.
Addressing the myths
There’s a lot of misinformation floating around about fluoride. Some of it sounds convincing on the surface but doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. The truth is that fluoride has an excellent safety record when used as directed. At Waken, we believe in giving you clear, accurate information so you can make informed decisions, not ones based on fear or confusion.
How much fluoride do we use?
In our toothpaste, we use 1450 ppm fluoride, the amount most dentists recommend for adults and anyone over the age of six. It’s proven to protect against cavities and enamel damage.
In our mouthwash, we use 250 ppm fluoride. Mouthwash is a top-up, not a replacement for brushing, so it doesn’t need as much. It gives your enamel an extra layer of support between brushes, without adding unnecessary exposure.
What about alternatives?
We always keep an eye on emerging ingredients. One that shows promise is hydroxyapatite, a mineral that also helps strengthen enamel. We’re exploring ways to use it in future products. If it meets our standards for effectiveness, safety and sustainability, we’ll include it where it makes sense.
Making clear, confident choices
At Waken, we base every decision on evidence and care. Fluoride is a key part of that. We use it at levels that are both safe and effective, because we want your oral care to be something you can trust. And if you ever have questions about it, or any of our ingredients, we’re always happy to talk it through.
Don’t just clean. Care.
