The Kids Waken Smile Club

Captain Brushmore's adventure.

A bedtime story from the Smile Club, about two minutes long. Best read out loud, toothbrush in hand.

In the bathroom at the end of the hall, on a shelf above the sink, lives the Smile Club. Captain Brushmore is their leader. He has a red cape, a big smile and one job he loves more than anything: brushing teeth.

Every morning and every night, the Captain calls the club together. Tilly Tooth checks the back teeth. Tuby squeezes out just the right amount. DJ Melon Fresh puts the music on, because a good brush takes two whole minutes.

But one night, something was different. The house was quiet, the light was off, and nobody had come to brush. Behind the toothbrush cup, somebody giggled.

It was Lord Rottingham, head of the Trouble Makers, with Grumpus Green, Grinster Goldie and Princess Pinkrot. "A skipped brush!" he whispered. "Leftover snacks! Sneaky sugar! Tonight the teeth are ours."

Captain Brushmore leapt up. "Not on my watch," he said. He knocked on the bathroom door with his bristles, tap tap tap, until a sleepy face appeared. "Time to brush," said the Captain. "Two minutes. I'll help."

DJ Melon Fresh pressed play. Bubbly Bill made bubbles. Tilly Tooth shouted "Don't miss the back!" and Snoozy Sue kept everything calm. Round the top, round the bottom, front and back, until the song was done.

The Trouble Makers had nowhere left to hide. "Foiled again," groaned Lord Rottingham, and off they crept, to wait for another skipped brush. There wouldn't be one. Not tonight.

Before bed, one more thing. A tick on the chart. Then the Tooth Fairy peeped in, saw a clean smile, and winked. "Good work, Captain," she said. "See you in the morning."

Don't just clean. Care.
